IT’S easy enough to dream up ideas that might transform us into millionaires. Creating an addictive social networking site or developing a simple product that everybody wants to buy, are just two ways to get started on the path to riches.
But have you ever stopped to think that perhaps the reason why you aren’t a millionaire (or on your way to becoming one) is not for a lack of entrepreneurial ideas. The wicked truth is that for most people, whether or not they become stinking rich has very little to do with the amount of money they make or the amount of ideas they have. It’s about the way they treat money in their daily life.
Here are some possible reasons why you aren’t a millionaire – yet!
Too busy keeping up with the Garcia’s – If you’re the sort of person who worries too much what the neighbours think, then you’re probably wasting your hard-earned money on material possessions to impress them instead of building your wealth.
Hooked on credit – Until credit cards entered our lives, it was difficult to spend more than you had. Today however, many people live beyond their means on costly credit. If you have credit card debt because you couldn’t wait until you had enough money to purchase something in cash, you are making others wealthy while keeping yourself in debt.
What’s your vice? – Whether it’s a fondness for triple distilled whiskey, Cuban cigars, cigarettes or even junk food and snacks, your personal vice could be using up a lot of money that could in theory be used toward building wealth. As little as a packet of cigarettes a day, will add almost €1,500 to your expenses per year.
You have no goals – Lionel Messi didn’t just wake one morning and decide he wanted to be a professional football player making ridiculous amounts of money every time he appears on a soccer pitch. No, it was his goal and he worked hard to make it a reality. It’s the same with your wealth. You need to take the time to set saving and investing goals on a yearly basis and come up with a plan for how to achieve those goals.
You have no passion – In this time of crisis a job is a job – that’s for sure. But… if you really what to make a small fortune, you’re not going to achieve this by doing something you hate. While your job doesn’t necessarily need to be your dream job, you do need to enjoy it if you do want to strike it big one day!
